We would love to hear from you: a clue you enjoyed, a game you would like to see, or something that has gone wrong. A real person reads every message. If it is about a particular puzzle, the date and the game are all we need to find it.
How the puzzles work
The rule underneath them all, and what each game does with it, is on its own page: How to play.
Common questions
- My answer is a real word and it is not accepted.
- Each clue has exactly one intended answer, and we check that before publishing. Where a word has two spellings made of the same letters, either one is accepted. Otherwise the clue says which spelling it wants. If you are confident your answer fits the clue and makes a legal step, send us the date and the game name with the form at the top of this page; we do fix these.
- I lost my progress.
- On the website, your progress is kept in the browser you played in, and clearing your browsing data clears it. In the app, your answers are kept on the device, and your hints, day passes, solve times and the days you have opened are also saved to your own iCloud account. We have no copy of either to restore it from.
- When do the new puzzles appear?
- At 05:00 UTC, which is 3:00pm in Sydney, or 4:00pm while New South Wales is on daylight saving; 5:00am in London, or 6:00am during British Summer Time; and midnight in New York, or 1:00am during US daylight time. Omeletter's day is the same everywhere, so everybody gets the same four puzzles and a shared result means the same thing to whoever receives it.
- Where does "quicker than 71% of the people who have solved this one" come from?
- Everyone who finishes a puzzle sends how long it took, with nothing attached to say who they are, and the figure is worked out from those times. Until a dozen people have finished, it says where you came rather than a percentage, since a percentage of a handful of people is not worth printing. After that it gives the percentage, unless yours is in the slowest quarter, where it says how many have solved it and how long it is taking people instead. The privacy page sets out exactly what is sent.
- Does the timer keep running when I leave a puzzle?
- The timer pauses when you leave a puzzle and picks up where it left off when you come back.
- A clue looks offensive.
- The clues are set by a human and the answers are checked against a blocklist, and something can still slip through. Tell us the date and the game and we will change it.
- How do hints work?
- You start with fifty in the app and five on the website, and you earn one for every puzzle you solve. They never expire, and a day never starts with fewer than three. A hint shows one letter of the answer you are on. In Scratch, which has no clues, it shows a letter of a word that fits the box you are on, and asking again shows another. In the app you can also buy packs of hints.
- Which days can I play?
- Today and the two days before it are free, on the website and in the app. In the app, a day you open while it is free stays yours. Any other day from 1 September 2026 can be opened with a day pass, which opens that one day for good, or with All puzzles, which opens every day.
- How does the streak work?
- A day counts towards your streak once you have solved all four of its puzzles on the day itself, with or without hints.
- Is there an Android version?
- Yes, on Google Play. The website plays the same daily puzzles in any modern browser too.
If you are using the iPhone app
- I bought All puzzles, but the days are locked on my new phone.
- Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you bought it with.
- Where did my hints and day passes go?
- Hints and day passes come back through iCloud rather than through Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in to iCloud on the new phone with the same Apple Account, open the app, and give it a minute to catch up.
- Can I get a refund?
- Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong, tell us as well; we would like to know.
- How do I turn off sound or haptics?
- In the app, open Settings from the top right of the main screen. You can switch sound and haptics on or off, and replay the tutorial, from there.
Accessibility
The iPhone app works with VoiceOver and with larger text sizes, and respects Reduce Motion. The website can be played with the keyboard alone, and it follows the Reduce Motion setting on your device. If something is hard to use, please tell us what and on which screen; it is the fastest way to get it fixed.
